Membership

Individual Memberships in NASFM

Individual membership in NASFM is reserved primarily for State Fire Marshals or the equivalent position in a state, and their top deputies - those for whom NASFM carries out its mission of protecting life, property and the environment from fire and related hazards. NASFM also has created a special individual membership category for those who support our mission but do not represent a company or association. The levels of membership offered are as follows:

There are many opportunities for the private sector to work with the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) to seek higher levels of fire safety and help fulfill NASFM's mission to "protect life, property and the environment from fire and related hazards." If you share our determination to achieve a safer America, we invite you to join our organization. The levels of membership offered are as follows:

If you would like to be considered for membership in NASFM, please call Peggy Beiling at 202-393-1129, or complete a NASFM Individual or Corporate/Association Application for Membership to begin the process.

Individual Memberships:

Principal Membership

Eligibility: State Fire Marshal or equivalent position in each state. Principal Members are full voting members of NASFM.

  • Annual dues: $400
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • Opportunities to network with peers at NASFM Annual Conference
    • Travel and lodging paid to NASFM Annual Conference (one representative per state)
    • Participation in State Fire Marshals Discussion Forum on Google Groups
    • Ability to survey NASFM membership
    • Access to exclusive "Members Only" section of NASFM website
    • Expert guidance available to individual State Fire Marshals on various issues
    • Resources on safety training, public education, juvenile firesetting prevention
    • Representation at Model Codes hearings
    • National advocate for safety standards, regulations, legislation
    • Representation on committees addressing safety issues of national importance

Associate Membership

Eligibility: Staff members from State Fire Marshal offices who have been appointed by the State Fire Marshal to assist with NASFM issues. Associate Members are non-voting members.

  • Annual dues: $250
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • All the benefits of Principal Membership, except as non-voting members*
    • *If State Fire Marshal is unable to attend annual conference, one designated Associate Member can attend as that state's representative with travel and lodging paid by NASFM.

Affiliate Membership

Eligibility: Individuals involved in a fire protection-related activity and support NASFM's mission but do not represent a particular organization. Affiliate Members are non-voting members.

  • Annual dues: $100
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • Copies of all NASFM bulletins, reports, and newsletters
    • Invitation to attend the NASFM Annual Conference

Corporate and Association Memberships:

Advocate Membership

Eligibility: Corporations, companies, and research/academic institutions with a demonstrated commitment to fire safety and support of NASFM's mission.

  • Annual dues: $2,500
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • A member discounted rate on exhibit space at NASFM Annual Conference, as available
    • One discounted registration for Annual Conference
    • Copies of all NASFM bulletins, reports, and newsletters


Champion Membership

Eligibility: Corporations, companies, and research/academic institutions with a demonstrated commitment to fire safety and support of NASFM's mission.

  • Annual dues: $5,000+
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • All Membership benefits of Advocates (see above) plus:
    • Roster and public contact information of State Fire Marshals upon request
    • Ability to survey NASFM membership electronically (one survey per year)
    • With Committee Chair's approval, observer status at NASFM Committee meetings
Trade Membership

Eligibility: Trade associations and professional societies with a demonstrated commitment to fire safety and support of NASFM's mission.

  • Annual dues: $5,000+
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • All Membership benefits of Advocates (see above) plus:
    • Roster and public contact information of State Fire Marshals upon request
    • Ability to survey NASFM membership electronically (one survey per year)
    • With Committee Chair's approval, observer status at NASFM Committee meeting

President's Council Membership

Eligibility: By invitation of the NASFM Board of Directors

  • Annual dues: $7,500+
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • All Membership benefits of Champions (see above) plus:
    • An additional 15% off the member discounted rate on exhibit space at the NASFM Annual Conference, as available
    • Opportunity to serve as advisory members of NASFM Committees
    • Link to your company website on NASFM homepage
    • Recognition of sponsorship on NASFM website
    • Featured in self-written article in one issue of NASFM's monthly newsletter
    • Recognition at one State Fire Marshals Forum at the Annual Conference
    • NASFM will help with introductions and facilitate direct communication with State Fire Marshals as requested.

Sustaining Partner Membership

Eligibility: By invitation of the NASFM Board of Directors

  • Annual dues: $15,000+
  • Membership Benefits Include:
    • All Membership benefits of President's Council (see above) plus:
    • An additional 10% (cumulative 25% savings) off the member discounted rate on exhibit space at the NASFM Annual Conference, as available
    • Opportunity to propose subjects for and participate in NASFM Annual Conference Sustaining Partner Roundtables. These Roundtables allow participants to meet directly with State Fire Marshals to discuss issues of mutual concern
